Dynamic Select list in Stored Proc

I have the following script where the select parameters is dependent on the "component" parameter list being send via the stored proc. Therefore the number of parameters returned by the proc is dynamic. These fields therefore do not show in the .Net design to be added to the report. Need some advise please.

EXECUTE (@.Command)You don't have to have the fields showing in the Designer to use them. You
can set the source of the textboxes to =Fields!<your field name>.Value. You
can also use the IsMissing property of the Field object to determine if the
stored procedure has returned the field or not. Finally, please not that
multiple select statements are not supported in RS; only the first is used.

Dynamic Query

Hi there
I am trying to create a report with a proc that has dynamic column headers.
eg TonsHarvested1998, TonsHarvested2000, etc.
The problem I am experiencing is that these columns are not displayed in the
fields editor box and I have no idea as to how I can get them displayed in
my textboxes.
Can anyone give me any ideas as to how I can sort this out.

KershniFirst run the static version of the query which will populate the fields
list and then replace the query with the dynamic version. You can also
populate the fields list manually (Dataset dialog box -> Fields tab.)

Dynamic Graphs

I'm tryin to create a graph, the info comes from a stored proc which takes
in the day (eg Monday) as a parameter.
The graph is then plotted based on that day.
I now want to create graphs for 7 days of the week using this same stored
proc. Can anybody give me any ideas as to how I can change the parameters
for each graph so that I can then display all 7 graphs together using 1
stored proc.Create seven data sets in your report. For each one, change the query
parameters to explicitly hand in the day (and delete the autogenerated Day
report parameter, since you won't need it). Then create seven charts,
binding each to one of the data sets.

Dynamic Cursor Generation..

Hi Everybody,
I have a probs with dynamic generation.
I am writing the probs

but instate of above block how can I dynamically generate this query?

if u want to ftech rows thru proc, u can code like

create proc test
as
use db
exec(select * from table)

this might work

The way I've done stuff like this in the past is to stuff the results
into a temp table and run a cursor off that.

Example:
declare @.SQLstring varchar(100)
create table #foo (foovar int)

select @.SQLString = 'select distinct foovar from footable'

insert into #foo exec(@.SQLString)

declare foo_cursor for select distinct foovar from #foo
etc.

Obviously you really want to do this type of stuff when there is no
other way around it.

Dynamic Columns

Hi there
I have a problem with displaying the columns of my report. I have a stored
proc that creates my columns dynamically based on the data, eg
TonsHarvested1998, TonsHarvested2000, etc. These are sample column headers
returned by my proc.
I have no idea as to how I can display this data as the columns dont appear
on the fields designer so I cant figure out how I can display them in my
table and put them into my textboxes.
Can anyone give me an idea as to how I can go about doing this.
ThanksI worked on a project a while back that was like this... The result set was
ONLY returned when the proper parameters were sent, and the app didn't send
any parameters so none of the intelligent stuff worked... Perhaps RS is
using the returned result set (using reflection) to show the column names,
etc... What we did was provide default values for the parameters that caused
the type of result set we wanted to use at design time... In the SP , if
@.param=1 select yaada,...
What I suspect will NOT work is variable number or names for parameters,
because the mappings to fields etc is done at design time.. ( although I
could easily be mistaken)...
